Theme of the Week: Mood vs. Mission
Brother,
Marcus Aurelius wrote, “At dawn, when you rise unwillingly…remember your purpose.” Even 2,000 years ago, men struggled with the same thing we do today, waking up overwhelmed, scattered, and unsure of what the day requires of us. The truth is simple: without purpose, we drift. And when men drift, we suffer.
We are not built for passive living. We are descendants of hunter-gatherers, men whose mental and physical health depended on having a clear mission every single day. The purpose was survival. Today, the world is comfortable, but men are struggling more than ever. Not because we are weaker, but because we are under-purposed. When you wake up without a mission, your mood takes over, and your mood will always pull you toward comfort, distraction, and avoidance.
I learned this in a very challenging way. I found myself looking into the eyes of the woman I love as we were told that an aggressive blood cancer was killing me. At that moment, I felt myself divided. One part drowned in sadness, fear, and confusion. The other part understood that a decision had to be made.
Do I let my mood and fear run my life?
or
Do I create a mission and purpose stronger than my fear?
I chose the mission. My purpose became survival. Not only for myself, but for the woman I love and the future we hope to have together. Everything inside of me could have folded. I could have collapsed into uncertainty and darkness and dragged the people I loved into it with me. But purpose brings clarity when emotions make everything blurry. Purpose brings strength when life tries to break you. Yes, internally, I felt every negative emotion a man can feel. But externally, I chose to radiate strength, positivity, and faith. I chose to trust that God had allowed this journey for a reason, and that my reaction mattered.
That is what mood vs mission really means:
Your mood is temporary.
Your mission is chosen.
Your purpose can save your life.
So as you begin this week, I want you to sit with one question:
What is my mission today? Not this year. Not this month. Today. One clear purpose, no matter how small, gives your mind direction, your actions structure, and your spirit strength. Do not let your mood dictate your day, today.
Lead with a mission.
Lead with intention.
Lead with purpose.
I am right here walking this path with you.
Stay strong, even when you are not. It's okay, you are not alone.
With love always,
Michael Argyrides
